Just make a slab at your desired thickness, cut the appropriate square or hexigon shape, dry flat and under pressure for several days until bone dry. Then, bisque fire your tile bat! That's it. Remember - tiles are held securely in place by putting wet clay on the wheel head below each tile. A snug fit using spacers adapters is nice but wet clay under each tile is essential.

Each Daltile square tile from Home Depot has two spacer tabs on the sides. If these are not sanded down there is very little space between the tile and the tile spinner. However, I always recommend those using these tiles to sand down the edge of those tiles. Sometimes they can be sharp. This will leave a slight (mabye 1/16" - 1.5mm) gap between the tile and the Tile Spinner to help you get the tile in and out smoothly. Tiles are held securely in the Tile Spinner not by having a snug fit, but rather by wet clay underneath each clay tile. A snug fit can be achieved using spacers adapters for most tiles but wet clay under each tile is essential and keeps the tile stuck to the wheel head.

I place moist or wet clay from my splash pan directly on the wheel head. Alternatively, you can pinch off an ounce or two from the clay you're about to work with and spread it on the wheel head below where the tiles will be placed. I like to put wet clay evenly and in various places where the tile will sit.

Use the pry areas on either side of the Tile Spinner to get the tile out of the spinner. You can use any tool that does the job :)
