Make-A-Mug Pottery Classes
No pottery wheel, no pressure - just you, a table full of ready-made forms, and every tool you need to make it your own. Our team has prepared the cups of all shapes and sizes for you, slip-cast and hand-thrown by our potters. What they lack is YOU - your stamping, carving, sculpting, adding handles, painting - creativity. Skip straight to the fun part and try as many as you like. You'll finish with a once-in-a-lifetime souvenir you'll actually use every morning.

OVERVIEW
Pick Your Shape(s)
We'll have an assortment of ready-made slip-cast and hand thrown forms for you - still soft enough to make your mark. Grab one, grab three. You're welcome to try as many as you like.
Stamp, Carve and Shape
We will walk you through, step by step the basics of hand building. Don't think "masterpiece". Instead, think play-dough with friends - and anything you want to keep can become permanent. Anything you don't want to keep will be recycled for tomorrow's classes.
Imprint your words, your thumbprint, initials, poetic inspirations or funny memes. Draw pictures, add designs or textures, carve into the surface, cut away and add on. Feet, faces, flowers, critters, whatever you dream up can Make A Mug unique. Then we'll add a handle that fits your hand and your piece. Don't be intimidated! Just have fun and we'll walk you through it step by step.
Sample Texas' Best Pottery
Pottery is art intended for use. The Outpost Pottery Gallery features work from some of Texas' best ceramic artists. Take one off the shelf and enjoy it with your beverage of choice for the evening. Everything tastes better in a handmade work of art. Our fridge is stocked with sparkling waters and sodas, there's hot water for tea or coffee available on demand, and you're welcome to BYOB (or grab a bottle of wine from The Grape next door).

Who are Make-a-Mug Pottery Classes for?
Everyone. Make a Mug Night isn't limited to couples, or families, or any one kind of group - book a table for two, bring a friend, come as a family, or turn it into a birthday party where guests can book their own seat at the table. No experience needed, and since there's no wheel involved, it's a great fit for kids or folks with mobility issues. Seating for the studio is shared across everyone that night, so however your group is shaped, there's room.
Firing Fees & Shipping
Your ticket price covers the evening, the prepared clay cups, and all the tools needed to decorate your masterpiece. To keep and finish your creations, there's a firing fee of $4 to $15 per piece, depending on the glaze (surface finishing) you choose. That process typically takes about one month. If you're from out of town and need it shipped, we can arrange for that as well.
What to Wear:
Hand building is no where near as messy as working on the wheel. Clay and slip come right out of clothes, so wear what you want and if you get a little something on you, know it won't stay there long.
